I think afternoon tea is one of my favourite special meals. One of the most original and fun wedding gifts (yes, I know, wedding was over a year ago!) we received, was afternoon tea at the Fairmont. We’ve had such a busy year, that we haven’t managed to schedule in this teatime treat!

We finally made the booking a last month (I know that this blog is somewhat late!) and made our way to the Fairmont Hotel on a Sunday in February – just over a year after the wedding!

In all, it was a delightful experience. It made me homesick for London, where I have had afternoon tea at the Ritz, the Savoy and Fortnum and Mason’s (in case you’re wondering, the Savoy tea was the best, followed closely by the Ritz tea. The Fortnum’s tea was somewhat disappointing!

The Fairmont Afternoon Tea takes place in the very ornate Laurel Court Restaurant. Here is the standard menu. The service was wonderful and the staff are very good about making substitutions if there are things you don’t eat. They also have a special children’s tea menu as well, with things like pb&j sandwiches. There was a little girl on a table close to ours who was being treated to a special tea with her mother and grandmother (I think), her face was something to see when her meal arrived! She was completely overwhelmed!

Arriving at The Fairmont Hotel

The Laurel Court Afternoon Tea - sandwiches on the top tier, scones, in the middle tier and cakes on the bottom tier!

All that was left at the end of the meal! They very kindly packaged it up for us to take home!

Photos are by my hub!
